Debrief
The goal of this film is to submit a video to the Melbourne tourism office that highlights well-known and well-recognized spots across the city. To do so, the notion of a Vlog-style video is appealing, and it is well-suited to the YouTube platform, which popularised this format. This is great for our target group of young people aged 25 to 35 who use this platform and travel frequently.
It was decided not to use actors in this movie; rather, it is a video of mood captured at a certain moment in the city. To better complement the video’s aesthetic, the equipment employed exactly reflects the project’s framework:
- iPhone SE 2020: 12MP Wide camera, ƒ/1.8 aperture, digital zoom up to 3x, 1080p HD video recording at 60 fps and optical image stabilization
- Gimble DJI OM 4: Stabilisation and movement of the camera
This allowed a single person to shoot and go to many areas while still having a great deal of mobility. Because there isn’t any big or heavy material to transport. This was also useful for filming in difficult locations, such as the interior of a tram. The shots were all shot on the same day to prevent having too much variation in brightness, as well as to take advantage of the fact that the day will be sunny and ideal weather. From that, everything was filmed in Melbourne, in the following sequence, at the following times, and at the following places:
Friday 22/04/2022
Morning:
- Southern Cross Station
- Dockland
- Southbank
- Flinders Street Station
- Queen Victoria market
Afternoon:
- Parliament of Victoria
- Swanston X Bourke Street
- NGV
- Shrine of Remembrance
- Royal Botanical Garden
Regarding that, the majority of the work was completed during the video editing process, which had to adhere to the chosen music’s beat. The various ideas are connected together, with the order of visits to the city being respected. The sequences are often read at a moderate pace, reflecting the objective for a relaxing and peaceful video, as a visit to the city should be. Finally, the outcome is similar to what can be found on YouTube and created by more experienced persons in this genre.
The video is far from ideal, with several images suffering from a lack of quality owing to the lack of skill with the equipment. In the same manner that shooting angles haven’t remain classics. A longer period of manipulation and training may result in more fascinating outcomes. Similarly, the material used, the iPhone SE has a relatively low quality compared to the current models, which might make a difference. But, on the whole, this initial journey into this manner was enlightening and provided a fresh perspective on the work done thus far, which had remained firmly rooted in the traditional methods of filmmaking and video production.
